About Our School
Our Story
Harewood Infant School opened in January 1966, as a purpose build infant school, in the pleasant suburb of Tuffley in the City of Gloucester. We believe that the school is named after Harewood House in West Yorkshire because the local street names follow a similar theme (Windsor Drive, Chatsworth Avenue etc.)
Although the name of our school tends to be pronounced 'Har-wood', our logo features a hare and has done for some time.
We have large, well-equipped classrooms, a hall and exciting outside play areas. Playing fields and grass areas with views over the city surround the school. Trees and plants make the grounds attractive and encourage bird and animal life. There is a conservation area where the children enjoy Forest School enrichment sessions.
George's Playgroup and Tuffley Playgroup are both based at our school. Harewood Infant and Junior Schools share the same site and there are close links between the two schools. The former caretaker's bungalow has been converted to provide an attractive facility for school and community use. Harewood Infant School is part of the Gloucester Schools Partnership.
The School Day
The door is opened at 8.40am. The register is taken at 8.45am and the school day finishes at 3.15pm. This arrangement enables parents to deliver and collect children from both schools on the Harewood site. We are open for 32.5 hours each week. The lunch break is from 12:00 - 1:00pm for children in Turquoise, Blue and Lilac classes and 12.15 - 1.15pm for children in Green, Yellow, Red, Orange and Pink classes.
On Fridays, we encourage all parents to bring their children into the classroom from 8.40am so the children can share and celebrate the work they have been doing during the week.
